Retired physicist, after a career in machine learning & stats mostly for cancer drug discovery. Now blogging about stats in the news.

Avatar: convergence basins in the complex plane of Newton's algorithm searching for the cube roots of unity. (After a NYT column by @stevenstrogatz, long ago.)

- Apprentice mathematician (Professor at Université Paris Cité),
interested in algebraic geometry, number theory and (more recently) proof formalization
- Apprentice musician (drums, tabla, cajon; previously Diderock; a rarely meeting jazz trio/quartet).

I'm at Parkland College (for a few decades) helping folks navigate developmental courses/placements (but fighting the "hey, 5% of these folks could pass college so we should just get rid of developmental teaching" trends) dreaming of structured paths for building understanding *and* fluency instead of "I don't have time to teach you, here's a calculator."

I'm a mathematician, and I like combinatorics, universal algebra, and category theory. I also write software, and I know that spreading technical literacy is critical to building a better world.

I'm a mathematician at UNAM in Mexico City. I work in algebraic topology, homotopy theory and higher category theory, but am interested in all sorts of math.

I also enjoy computer programming as a hobby and am a big fan of the text editor Emacs.

I'm a computational neuroscientist & software engineer. Colors, photos, brains, nature, science, software & chess, preferably all at the same time!
